A woman has recounted an alleged staged kidnapping incident near Buduburam, warning members of the public to be cautious when approached by strangers seeking assistance or free rides.

In a video shared on TikTok and sighted by GhanaWeb on October 7, 2026, she said the incident occurred on September 26, 2026, when she and her uncle travelled to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to send a relative to school.

She said on their return journey to Accra, they stopped to buy plantain and pineapples when two women approached their vehicle.

According to her, one appeared heavily pregnant while the other had two children with her.

She said the woman with the two children initially asked whether they were heading to Accra and requested a free ride.

The woman who appeared pregnant subsequently pleaded with her to allow her to join them.

However, she said her uncle declined to offer them a lift, a decision she believed was guided by instinct.

The woman said their journey continued until they reached an area around Buduburam, where heavy traffic forced vehicles to move slowly.

She said they noticed an angry crowd gathered around a man and decided to find out what had happened.

According to her, they were surprised to recognise the supposedly pregnant woman among those at the scene.

She said the woman was accusing the man of kidnapping her, prompting them to intervene because they knew she had earlier approached them for a free ride.

“We told them it was not true because she was the same woman who had approached us earlier to ask for a lift,” she recounted.

She said they informed the people at the scene about what had happened earlier and contacted the police.

According to her, the police subsequently arrived at the scene and arrested the woman and some of her alleged accomplices after it emerged that the kidnapping allegation was allegedly part of a planned scheme.

The woman has since urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with strangers and to remain vigilant amid concerns over alleged kidnapping-related incidents.

She also advised motorists to be careful when offering free rides to people they do not know, particularly along major roads.
