Dr Richmond Yeboah, a lecturer at Cape Coast Technical University, has urged the newly elected leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to work closely with the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and prioritise unity ahead of the 2028 elections.

Speaking in an interview with Angel FM, Dr. Yeboah said the party could not afford to push away members and supporters who may feel disappointed after the national executive elections.

“Politics is played by numbers,” he said, stressing the need for the new leadership to bring disgruntled members back into the fold.

He cautioned the new executives against provocative comments and divisive conduct that could alienate sections of the party and weaken its chances in 2028.

According to him, the candidates who contested the executive positions all brought different strengths to the party and should not be discarded simply because they lost the elections.

He specifically mentioned former NPP National Chairman Paul Afoko and former presidential candidate Boakye Agyarko among those whose experience and expertise could still benefit the party.

“Everybody who contested has a strength that can be used for the party,” Dr. Yeboah said, arguing that the new leadership should find ways to tap into those strengths.

The newly elected executives include former General Secretary John Boadu, who is now National Chairman, as well as First Vice Chairman Kojo Fosu Boadu, Second Vice Chairman Henry Nana Boakye and Third Vice Chairman Nana Akomea.

Dr. Yeboah also called for discipline and inclusivity within the party, warning against tribalism, religious bigotry and divisive politics.

He said the NPP needs a united front capable of mobilising its grassroots and working collectively with Bawumia as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
