Ghanaian media personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has described the ongoing investigation into Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as a perceived political witch-hunt.

In a self-recorded video, Afia Pokua questioned the manner in which EOCO is handling the investigation, arguing that the development could set a worrying precedent for future governments.

According to her, the pace and approach of the investigations are creating an embarrassment for the country and giving the impression that members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) are being deliberately targeted.

“The rate that the EOCO is going, it is becoming a big embarrassment to Ghana and it is becoming so obvious that we have something to hide,” she said.

Afia Pokua further expressed concern that a change in government could result in similar actions being taken against political opponents.

“And I am pained that if the NPP comes to power, they will do worse because the government has made it so obvious that there is a witch-hunting going on. It is becoming so obvious that the government is witch-hunting NPP people,” she added.

Her comments come amid heightened attention surrounding EOCO’s investigation into Baffour Awuah, who is also a senior partner of the law firm Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners.

Meanwhile, EOCO has granted the Manhyia South MP bail in the sum of GH¢50 million with three sureties as investigations into alleged economic and organised crimes continue.
Baffour Awuah voluntarily reported to EOCO’s headquarters at about 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, following an arrest warrant issued by the Accra High Court.

The warrant was issued after EOCO told the court that earlier attempts to secure the MP’s attendance for questioning had been unsuccessful. EOCO has said it had previously invited him on two occasions in February 2026. Baffour Awuah, however, has disputed aspects of the agency’s account and maintained that representatives of his former law firm had engaged with investigators.

The investigation centres on alleged transactions involving SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited, including allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss, money laundering and tax-related offences.

EOCO also obtained a warrant to search premises linked to the MP and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation. Investigators subsequently searched his office and residence as part of the probe.

Baffour Awuah has denied receiving an alleged GH¢2.2 million payment as legal fees and has challenged aspects of EOCO’s account of the circumstances leading to his appearance before the agency.

EOCO, for its part, has urged the public not to draw premature conclusions about the MP’s culpability, stressing that the investigation remains ongoing and that all persons involved will be afforded their rights under the Constitution and applicable laws.
