Businesses in Ghana and the Philippines could soon have a new platform to pursue trade, investment and commercial partnerships as the two countries move to establish a chamber of commerce.

The proposed chamber is expected to connect private sector players from both countries, making it easier for businesses to identify investment opportunities and establish partnerships.

The agreement was reached during discussions between Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In a Facebook post, the ministry said Ghana and the Philippines also plan to organise business forums in both countries to increase direct engagement between their private sectors.

The discussions also covered labour mobility, with the two countries agreeing to exchange ideas and expertise on arrangements for the movement of workers.

The planned opening of a Philippine embassy in Ghana later this year is also expected to strengthen diplomatic and business relations between the two countries.
