Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz recorded underwhelming statistics during his tenure as Black Stars coach, securing just one win in seven matches.

The manager mutually agreed with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to part ways following the team’s poor performances in recent times.

His tenure produced a difficult start, with Ghana winning just one of the seven matches played since the Portuguese coach took charge.

2027 AFCONQ: Gambia fight back from 2-0 down to stun Black Stars in Accra

The Black Stars' latest setback came on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, when they surrendered a 2-0 lead to suffer a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.

That result means Queiroz has now overseen seven matches since getting the Ghana job, with the Black Stars recording one win, two draws and four defeats.
Ghana have scored just five goals across those seven matches while conceding 10, leaving the team with a negative goal difference of five.

The record represents a difficult spell for Queiroz, who was brought back to the Black Stars following disappointing results.

The record represents a difficult spell for Queiroz, who was brought back to the Black Stars following disappointing results.

His only victory so far came against Panama in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while Ghana have also recorded two draws during his second spell.
The four defeats have come against Croatia, Colombia and The Gambia, with Ghana also suffering a defeat against Côte d'Ivoire in their opening 2027 AFCON qualifier.

The latest loss was particularly damaging because Ghana had appeared to be in control after Ernest Nuamah converted a penalty before Felix Afena-Gyan doubled the advantage with a free-kick.

However, defensive lapses allowed The Gambia to level before Ebrima Colley completed the comeback in the second half.
