There was a heated exchange at the studios of Oyerepa TV during an episode of Oyerepa Afutuo, a programme that helps resolve domestic and family disputes.
The exchange was between a man, Sarpong Kumankuma and the host of the programme, Eunice Naa Amerley Nortey, popularly known as Auntie Naa.
Sarpong had been brought onto the programme after his wife, Millicent, lodged a complaint against him over allegations of physical abuse and his decision to take custody of their two children, including their eight-month-old baby.
Auntie Naa was questioning Sarpong about the allegations when he turned the questioning on the host, asking why she did not bring her former husband, known as Bonsheka, onto the programme after their divorce for the public to discuss the circumstances surrounding their separation.
Sarpong asked Auntie Naa, “Is Bonsheka your husband? So why didn’t you bring Bonsheka to the show when you divorced him for people to also talk about him? Why?”
In response, Auntie Naa said the circumstances surrounding her divorce were different from Sarpong’s situation, particularly because, according to her, Sarpong had physically abused his wife.
She said, “Bonsheka didn’t beat me to death and his case is different from yours. He wasn’t beating me like you have been beating your wife.”
Sarpong, however, argued that Auntie Naa and the programme should sometimes open their phone lines to allow members of the public to discuss the lifestyles and personal issues of the hosts as well.
He said everyone has issues that they need to examine and urged the hosts of the programme to also look at themselves.
Millicent, who has two children with Sarpong, alleged that her husband had repeatedly assaulted her over minor disagreements.
According to her, the two had been in a relationship for nine years.
She recounted that the latest incident occurred while they were in their room.

“I stayed with the man, and last Monday, we were in the room in the evening when he said someone had removed the cover case. I said I hadn’t taken it, so it turned into an argument, and we insulted each other.
“He slapped me twice, so I also took something to hit him with, but he took it from me and beat me mercilessly.
“I said I couldn’t continue with the marriage, so I would leave. I took my children and went to my father’s house.
“I reported the matter to the Central Police Station.”
