Popular Ghanaian boxer Ayitey Powers has disclosed that his struggles with academics compelled him to discontinue his education at Class Six.

According to him, his father was someone who valued education and made significant efforts and financial investments to ensure that he received a good education, but those efforts did not yield the desired results.

He explained that he was frequently whipped in class because of his poor academic performance, which eventually caused him to lose interest in school and leave without even taking the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

“I attended Amazing Grace, Snaps College of Accountancy, and Nii Kolo. But the thing is, I don’t know anything; I was not good academically. My father is a gentleman, so he tried his utmost best for me to go to school, but I didn’t like it. When I went to school, teachers didn’t beat anybody in the class, but for me, I would be beaten, not in terms of stubbornness because I was not knowledgeable.

"They would teach me a lot of times, but it was not working, so I decided to dawg the school and find my way. I left school at Class Six. What is BECE? I don’t even know what you are talking about,” he said in an interview with UTV.

Ayitey Powers subsequently pursued a career in boxing, won several titles, and is now retired. He currently works as a promoter in the sporting fraternity.
