Amid growing concern over the rise of insults on social media, a sermon by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan‑Williams, founder and leader of Action Chapel International, has resurfaced.

Preaching to his congregation in July 2026, the clergyman condemned the increasing use of social media platforms to hurl derogatory remarks at political officials.

He warned that such behavior silences truth‑telling and undermines governance.

“We are building a society to silence the truth, because if you speak, they will attack you on social media. So everybody is quiet because nobody wants to be insulted, and freedom of speech has become freedom of insults, where everybody has the freedom to talk nonsense. But make no mistake: for every word you speak, there are implications; it's just a matter of time. Don’t think you say anything on social media and expect to go free; you are joking; it will come back to bite you one day,” he said.

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams described the act as “foolishness” and prayed for such individuals to repent of their actions.

“Let's correct some of this foolishness in our society. Nobody takes responsibility; every time we insult politicians, we are all part of the politicians. Say, Heavenly Father, through the blood of Jesus, we repent of hypocrisy and take full responsibility for how we handle one another; we repent of greed and selfishness, and stop shifting blame,” he said.

This comes as the police continue to arrest individuals who make derogatory and vile comments about public officials. One popular target of such comments is Ghana Jollof, who is yet to be arrested.

President John Dramani Mahama has tasked a media coalition with bringing stakeholders on board and gathering their ideas on addressing the menace.
