Former Member of Parliament for Tamale, Inusah Fuseini, has expressed doubts about Parliament’s ability to conduct a meaningful inquiry into the recent cocaine seizure linked to Ghana.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Fuseini said he had “zero trust” in Parliament’s ability to investigate the matter without partisan political considerations influencing its work.

“I don’t trust Parliament. I have zero trust in Parliament because they have not demonstrated to me that they can insulate themselves from partisan political considerations when they are dealing with national issues,” he said.

He argued that involving Parliament in the investigation would amount to a waste of time, insisting that the matter should instead be handled by the country’s intelligence and security agencies.

“I have said it will be a useless waste of time to call Parliament; I expect intelligence agencies to probe the case,” Fuseini indicated.

His comments were echoed by Dr John Osae-Kwapong, a fellow at the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), who also questioned whether a parliamentary inquiry would produce meaningful results.

Dr Osae-Kwapong said previous parliamentary discussions on major national issues had sometimes failed to produce tangible outcomes, raising doubts about what a fresh inquiry would achieve.

The calls for a parliamentary probe follow the Minority’s demand for an investigation into the seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine by French customs at the Port of Dunkirk from a container shipped from Ghana.

The Speaker of Parliament has subsequently recalled MPs from recess to sit on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, with the cocaine seizure expected to feature in the discussions.
