The Chief Executive of Ghana Export-Import Bank, Sylvester Adinam Mensah, has underscored the connection between cultural confidence and national prosperity, using LATENU Radio’s 10th anniversary celebration to highlight how local identity fuels economic empowerment.
Mensah, who also served as Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon, told the gathering in La that his work at Ghana EXIM Bank has shown him that “the nations that prosper are those that are confident in who they are. You cannot build a strong economy on a borrowed identity.”
He praised LATENU Radio for embodying that principle by turning Ga culture into a thriving enterprise.

Over the past decade, the station has created jobs for presenters, producers and technicians, while giving small businesses, from seamstresses in La to chop bars in Teshie, a platform to reach customers in their own language.
“That is economic empowerment. That is local content in action,” Mensah said.
The GEXIM Bank boss challenged LATENU to build on its achievements by embracing digital platforms to reach younger audiences, introducing programmes that teach Ga and its history, and using its platform to promote entrepreneurship.
He pledged collaboration between GEXIM Bank and the station to bring information on financing and export opportunities to the community in Ga.
He also commended LATENU for sustaining the Ga language in a cosmopolitan Accra, warning that language loss threatens cultural continuity.
“A people who lose their language slowly lose their memory, and a people without memory can easily lose their way,” he cautioned.
LATENU Radio is the main local station that serves the La, Teshie and Nungua traditional areas.
The durbar, attended by traditional leaders, government officials, and loyal listeners, featured cultural performances and tributes to the founders and staff who have sustained the station’s vision.
