Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Eric Edem Agbana, has disclosed that his colleague, the Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, had personally contacted him to represent him at a programme at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) before eventually deciding to attend the event himself.

Agbana disclosed this in a reflective post on September 25, 2026, following the incident in which Sosu reportedly collapsed while speaking at the GIMPA programme on Thursday, September 24, 2026.

According to the Ketu North MP, he received a call from Sosu about a week before the event, asking him to represent the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the programme.

Agbana said he declined because he was scheduled to travel to the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

He explained that Sosu then indicated that, despite having a busy schedule, he would try to attend because of the importance of engaging young people.

“It is a very hectic week for me, but let me try and go because these are opportunities to engage young people and our party and government must not be missing such platforms,” Agbana quoted Sosu as saying.

Agbana said he was therefore concerned when he later saw a video of what happened at the event Sosu had insisted on attending.

Reflecting on the demands of public service, the Ketu North MP said politicians often make personal sacrifices that are not visible to the public.

He noted that public officials frequently receive large volumes of calls and messages from constituents seeking assistance, intervention or opportunities.

Agbana recounted a recent experience in which he left his phone with one of his branch executives during a four-hour meeting so he could concentrate on the discussions.

According to him, the executive later told him that he had received 65 missed calls on his phone during the four hours.

He said such experiences had become part of the daily reality for many people in public service.

“Behind every missed call is often someone asking for help, someone with a problem, someone looking for an opportunity, someone seeking intervention or someone who simply wants to be heard,” he said.
