Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for the Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Patricia Appiah Agyei, has appealed to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to intervene in the continued detention of Ghanaian nurse Salomey Awity Bafoh.

Salomey Awity is being detained as part of ongoing investigations into the case involving social media commentator Ghana Jollof, who is currently being sought by the police.

According to the Deputy Minority Leader, the case has become a matter of concern for women, particularly because a woman is allegedly being used against another woman.

Speaking to the media in Parliament on September 24, 2026, Patricia Appiah Agyei appealed to the Vice President and the First Lady to intervene in the matter.

She argued that, as women, they should pay particular attention to the circumstances surrounding Salomey Awity's continued detention, especially given the number of women in Ghana who are single mothers and solely responsible for caring for their children.

“As we speak now, we are using women against other women. I would like to make a passionate appeal to our First Lady and our Vice President that what is happening is very disturbing, especially in Ghana, where most of the women are single mothers.

“This is a serious occasion of a woman who is single-handedly taking care of the children and has to see to it that the child attends school. So, they shouldn’t supervise any such thing that affects women at that stage.”

She also questioned the continued detention of Salomey Awity, noting that the authorities already have access to her electronic devices and other relevant materials.

“You have the gadgets. You have everything of hers. So how is the person going to deal with that? That is rather unfortunate,” she said.

Salomey Awity is being held over allegations that she provided financial support to Ghana Jollof, a social media commentator wanted by the police, to produce and circulate videos allegedly containing insults.

The case has attracted public attention, with concerns being raised over the circumstances surrounding Awity’s detention and the impact of her absence on her children.

On September 24, 2026, the High Court in Accra denied Salomey Awity bail as investigations into the case continue.
