President John Dramani Mahama is addressing the 81st United Nations General Assembly today in New York, United States (US), Thursday, September 24, 2026.

World leaders have gathered for the General Debate under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations that Delivers for All.”

Ghana’s President's statement comes on the back of his speech last year at the Assembly, which attracted international praise.

He is expected to touch on the resolution passed by the UN for slavery to be recognised as the greatest crime against humanity, which he championed.

He is also expected to touch on issues of reparations for African countries that suffered the most from the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
