Press Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior, Julius Kwame Anthony, has cited US State Department reports to argue that Ghana’s role as a transit point for illicit drugs was rampant during the NPP era.

Anthony said reports covering 2022 and 2024 had identified Ghana as a transit and destination point for illicit drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day, he referred to the 2025 US State Department report, which he said reviewed developments in 2024.

He quoted the report as describing Ghana as “a major transit point for heroin and cocaine shipments to other countries in Africa, Europe, and the United States.”

Anthony also cited a 2023 report covering 2022, which he said described Ghana as a transit and destination point for illicit drugs trafficked from Asia, South America and other African countries.

He questioned the NPP’s response to the earlier findings, arguing that the current cocaine trafficking debate should consider Ghana’s history rather than focus solely on recent seizures.

Anthony said he had brought copies of the reports and other documents to the interview and was willing to share them with the public.

He also displayed material he said showed drug trafficking routes through Ghana during the previous administration.
