Press Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior, Julius Kwame Anthony, has dismissed claims that Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak is not regarded in President John Dramani Mahama’s government.

Anthony said the president’s decision to entrust Muntaka with responsibilities involving the Interior and National Security portfolios demonstrated the confidence he had in the minister.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day, he described as “the most ridiculous of propositions” claims by Kwesi Buchi that Muntaka was not influential in government.

“If you look at this government framework that we have today, it is only one individual who is in charge of two ministries, if you would want to put it that way. That is Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak,” he said.

Anthony said national security and the management of the Interior Ministry were important responsibilities that required the president’s confidence.

“It takes some confidence for the president to say that it is this individual that I am reposing that confidence in. And indeed, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak has not failed the president on that charge,” he added.

He also disputed claims surrounding the presidential letter on the cocaine matter, saying he had a copy of the document and that it invited the Interior Minister.

“The letter that came from the office of the president, I have a copy over here. I can share it with you if you want,” Anthony said.

He added: “That letter invited the minister for the interior.”
