For many Ghanaians, the mortar and pestle is an essential kitchen tool, particularly for preparing popular staple food ‘fufu’.

However, for this SHS graduate, the traditional kitchen tool has become a means of survival.

Speaking in a video sighted by GhanaWeb on September 22, 2026, the young man, who lives at Santasi in the Ashanti Region, said he decided to sell mortars and pestles because it was a major business in Nkawkaw Amanfrom, a community where he was raised.

“I decided to sell mortars and pestles because where I was raised, this is the main business in the community,” he said.

He indicated that he relies on the trade temporarily while searching for better opportunities.

“I am doing this for the meantime, while I search for better opportunities. It is just to survive,” he said.

The business, he revealed, earns him about,"GH¢1,000 on an average day, although his income can drop to GH¢800 on slow business days".

He added that he does deliveries to supplement his income.

For now, he continues to rely on the trade as he searches for his next opportunity.
