President John Dramani Mahama will host African and Carribean leaders for a global development dialogue in New York on Monday, September 21, 2026, as part of Ghana’s engagements on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The event, dubbed “Full Circle: Making Global Development Work Again,” is being hosted by President Mahama under the Accra Reset initiative.

Ahead of the gathering, President Mahama posted on X: “We are getting together again, in New York, this evening for a global conversation.”

Mahama departs Ghana for 81st UN General Assembly in New York

The event, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST at the New York Marriott Marquis, will feature President Mahama as host, alongside Kenyan President William Ruto, Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as speakers.

The programme focuses on global development cooperation, with discussions covering health governance, skills, fair deal-making and shared prosperity.

The Accra Reset initiative was launched in New York in September 2025 following a summit convened by President Mahama in Accra on health sovereignty.

The initiative has since expanded beyond health to address broader questions around development cooperation, including debt, trade, migration, data governance and the capacity of countries to determine and implement their own development priorities.

The New York event marks one year since the Accra Reset's launch in the city and is intended to take stock of the initiative's progress while setting out its next phase.

Strategic partners for the event include the African Union, the AfroChampions Initiative, the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development and the Olusegun Obasanjo Leadership Institute.

Its convening partners include Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; the Global Fund; the World Health Organization; the Pandemic Fund; the Rockefeller Foundation; and Georgetown University.

The president is in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly, where he is scheduled to participate in several high-level engagements and deliver Ghana’s statement during the General Debate on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
