President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to draw inspiration from the vision of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and contribute to building a prosperous and equitable nation.

In a message shared on his Facebook page on Monday, September 21, 2026, to mark Founder’s Day, President Mahama said the country’s nation-building efforts remained unfinished.

He described Dr Nkrumah as a visionary whose pursuit of liberty, Pan-African unity and self-reliance established Ghana as a symbol of hope on the global stage.

According to him, Dr Nkrumah’s declaration that “the black man is capable of managing his own affairs” continues to serve as a source of national pride.

“As we celebrate his unparalleled legacy today, I remind every Ghanaian at home and in the diaspora that the work of nation-building is not complete,” President Mahama wrote.

He urged Ghanaians to draw strength from Dr Nkrumah’s ideals and play their part in advancing what he described as the “Resetting Ghana Agenda.”

President Mahama also called for greater unity and selfless patriotism, urging citizens to work towards economic freedom and social justice.

“I charge us all to rise above division, embrace selfless patriotism, and work tirelessly toward economic freedom and social justice,” he said.

The President noted that while Dr Nkrumah fought for Ghana’s political independence, the current generation had a collective responsibility to build a prosperous, equitable and resilient country.

“Just as Nkrumah fought for our political independence, we have a collective duty today to build a prosperous, equitable, and resilient Ghana,” he added.

Founder’s Day, observed on September 21, commemorates the birth of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who led Ghana to independence from British colonial rule in 1957.

President Mahama concluded his message by wishing Ghanaians a happy Founder’s Day and praying for God’s blessings on the country.
