Assin South MP Rev John Ntim Fordjour has questioned the selective application of the law, arguing that if Abronye is arrested over alleged wrongdoing, people from other political parties involved in similar conduct must also be held accountable.

Speaking on Newsfile hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, Ntim Fordjour said the issue was not about protecting members of his own party but ensuring that the law applies equally to everyone.

“And if you are NDC, it applies to you. But my problem is, if you are arresting Abronye, then you must arrest everybody else, whether they are CPP, NDC or whatsoever,” he said.

Ntim Fordjour said he would have no objection to the arrest of a person affiliated with the NPP if that person had committed an offence.

“But when the law only seems to be targeting persons of a certain political party, I have a problem,” he added.

Samson Lardy pushed the argument further, asking why Ntim Fordjour and other religious leaders did not openly condemn similar conduct when it involved people within their own political fold.

The MP responded that his position was not based on partisan loyalty.


“If it is bad when it is done by NDC, it is equally bad when it is done,” he said.

Ntim Fordjour said the same principle should guide the response to alleged criminal conduct regardless of the political identity of the person involved.

He said the focus should be on applying one standard rather than turning the issue into a contest between political parties.
