The Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has built a new roundabout with a statue of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, to honour his legacy.

The monument, named Osagyefo Roundabout and located on the Krisan-Eikwe-Sanzule road in the Ellembelle District, was commissioned on Friday, September 18, 2026, as part of activities marking this year's NkrumahFest and the 117th birthday celebration of the independence hero.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Armah-Kofi Buah disclosed why the roundabout and the statue were built at the site.

"People don't know, but they must know, this place was one of the places where the military occupied when Dr Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown, so it is very important we built this facility here," he said.

He added: "Today we will remember Osagyefo because he gave us Akosombo, but his hometown did not benefit from the electricity. It took President Rawlings to bring electricity to his hometown to honour him."

He promised that he would continue to protect the legacies of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

On her part, Samia Yaba Nkrumah expressed profound gratitude to Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah and the good people of Nzemaland for honouring her father.

"I thank you very much for honouring my father," she said.

"We want to see many Dr Kwame Nkrumahs in Nzemaland," she added.

On his part, the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, applauded Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah for putting up the facility to honour Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He said Nzemaland is the root of Ghana's politics, noting that the founder of the Convention People's Party (CPP) was Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who hailed from Nkroful in Nzema, and the founder of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) was Paa Grant, who came from Axim.

Some residents who spoke to Daniel Kaku commended the MP for the initiative, describing it as a befitting honour to Ghana's first President.

In attendance were the daughter of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Samia Yaba Nkrumah; renowned Pan-Africanist Prof P.L.O. Lumumba; the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah; the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene; Bernard Mornah; the Paramount Chief of the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council, Awulae Blay IX; and some chiefs and queen mothers, among other dignitaries.
