A video showing a collection of vintage luxury vehicles reportedly used by Ghana’s former presidents has sparked conversations over the state of what could be harnessed into a museum of presidential fleet from the era of Ghana’s first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The vehicles, seen parked inside what appears to be a warehouse, include about five Rolls-Royces and four Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Several of the cars appear to have been left untouched for a considerable period, with visible dirt and signs of deterioration of the vehicles.

Some also appear to have suffered from ageing and neglect, raising concerns about the preservation of Ghana’s historic presidential vehicles.

The collection is reportedly linked to former Ghanaian leaders, including Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Nkrumah was one of the most influential figures in Ghana’s history and played a central role in the country’s struggle for independence from British colonial rule.

He became Ghana’s first Prime Minister when the country gained independence on March 6, 1957, before becoming President when Ghana became a republic in 1960.

Historical records indicate that vehicles used by Nkrumah and other former leaders included prestigious marques such as Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz.

The Ghana Museums and Monuments Board has previously disclosed that it holds a collection of vehicles associated with former Ghanaian leaders, some of which require restoration.
