The Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) to stop denying duly admitted boarding students accommodation because they report with metal trunks, wooden chop boxes or other personal storage containers.

In a directive dated September 18, 2026, GES said students should be accommodated fairly regardless of their parents’ ability to afford specific types or brands of storage containers.

The Service said the items must only be reasonably sized, safe and not pose a risk to other students.

GES warned that heads of schools who violate the directive will be dealt with under applicable regulations and laws.
