Records presented to Parliament show that Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku received US$50,000 as an honorarium during Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The payment came to light during parliamentary scrutiny of expenditure on Ghana’s campaign, with Ranking Member of the Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, questioning some of the payments made to officials and support staff.

According to Assafuah, Okraku received US$50,000, while GFA General Secretary Prosper Harrison Addo was paid US$20,000.

“You indicate that the president of the GFA was given $50,000 for honorarium and the General Secretary, Prosper, was given $20,000,” Assafuah said.

The figures form part of the expenditure being examined by Parliament as the Minority seeks a detailed account of the funds used for Ghana’s World Cup participation.

The GFA president was part of the high-level Ministerial Oversight Committee established to steer Ghana’s preparations for the tournament.

The committee, chaired by Sports Minister Kofi Adams, included representatives from several government institutions as well as former Black Stars captain Abedi Ayew.



Ahead of the tournament, the Sports Minister told Parliament that US$310,000 had been earmarked for honorariums for management, officials and support staff as part of the proposed US$13.7 million World Cup budget.
