Former Minister of Education and Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, is scheduled to deliver a public lecture at Coventry University in the United Kingdom on education, energy and sustainable development in Africa.

The lecture, scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2026, will bring together academics, students, policymakers and other stakeholders to discuss the role of education and energy in Africa’s development.

Dr Opoku Prempeh, a former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, served as Minister of Education before becoming Minister of Energy.

His experience in both sectors is expected to inform discussions on human capital development, energy security, economic growth and sustainable development.

The keynote topic for the lecture is “Education, Energy and Sustainable Development: Preparing Future Leaders for Africa’s Transformation.”

The discussion is expected to cover issues including skills development, energy access and security, technological change, climate resilience and sustainable economic growth.

Dr Opoku Prempeh will be joined by Prof Andrew Turner, Vice-Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) at Coventry University, and Prof Jenna Ward, Dean of the College of Business and Law at the university.

The event will also focus on leadership development, education policy, energy transition and the skills needed to prepare the next generation of African leaders.

Dr Opoku Prempeh was the New Patriotic Party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate in Ghana’s 2024 general election.

The lecture will be held at Square One Bar, The Hub, Coventry, from 11:30am to 2:30pm on October 7, 2026.
