The government has announced a commitment of approximately $200 million to expand Ghana’s tree crop sector, with the cashew industry expected to be a major beneficiary of the investment.

Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, said the funding will help increase tree crop production and strengthen the cashew value chain, including processing and other areas of the industry.

She announced the commitment during the closing gala dinner of the 2026 African Cashew Alliance Annual Cashew Conference and Expo on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The four-day conference brought together stakeholders from across Africa’s cashew industry to discuss investment, production, processing and sustainable growth.

“The government of Ghana is committing approximately $200 million to tree crop production, of which cashew stands to benefit substantially,” she said.

The Minister also urged African cashew-producing countries to strengthen cooperation and develop the industry collectively rather than compete for the same export markets.

“I entreat every delegation in this room from Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique and beyond to see one another not as competitors for the same export market, but as partners in an Africa cashew industry,” she said.

She further called on development partners and private investors to support Ghana’s cashew sector by investing in processing facilities, grading technology and certification systems.

“To our development partners and investors, the door is open. Invest in our processing infrastructure, our grading technology and our certification, just to mention a few,” she added.

The government’s focus on the cashew sector forms part of a broader strategy to expand Ghana’s tree crop industry and increase local value addition.

Government has previously identified cashew, along with other tree crops, as an area with potential to create jobs, increase agricultural exports and reduce dependence on the export of raw produce.
