The government spent about $1.26 million to procure tickets for Ghanaian fans during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has disclosed.

Adams made the revelation when he appeared before Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee on Thursday, September 17, 2026, to brief lawmakers on Ghana’s participation in the tournament and other matters arising.

According to the minister, a total of 2,922 tickets were procured for Ghana’s three group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia.

Ghana purchased 948 tickets for the opening game against Panama, 1,000 for the clash with England and 974 for the final group match against Croatia.

“Chairman, we procured tickets to support our fans. We spent about 1.26 million dollars in the procurement of the 22,922 tickets. Spread as follows. Ghana versus Panama 948, Ghana versus Englang 1000 tickets, Ghana versus Croatia, 974 tickets,” he said.

Adams explained that the tickets covered different categories, with FIFA’s face value increased by a 10 percent administrative charge for the final purchase price.

For the Panama game, for instance, Category One tickets had a face value of $450 and were purchased at $495 after the additional charge, while other supporter categories ranged from $60 to $380.

For the England match, Category One tickets cost $660 after the administrative charge was added to the $600 face value, while prices for other categories varied.

Adams also explained that the original plan was to send about 800 supporters, but visa-processing challenges affected the arrangements.

As a result, some tickets were allocated to Ghanaians living in the diaspora, particularly those already in Canada and the United States.

“We did some arrangement that of these tickets based on the numbers we had agreed; the number of supporters who will go will be about 800, so the remaining tickets will be given to Ghanaians. But when the visa application was not working too well for some of the centers, a decision was taken that we would give many more of the tickets to Ghanaians who are already in the diaspora to be able to, attend,” he added.
