The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has inaugurated a Technical Committee to support the implementation and refinement of the Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP).

The committee, made up of nominees from relevant public institutions and other stakeholders, is expected to provide technical expertise and foster collaboration towards developing a coherent and sustainable infrastructure vision for the country.

The inauguration was led by the Chairman of the NDPC, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, in the presence of the Director-General of the Commission, Dr Audrey Smock Amoah on September 16, 2026.

The committee's work forms part of broader efforts to strengthen national development planning and ensure that infrastructure investments are aligned with Ghana's long-term development priorities.

The national development framework identifies five key areas; economic development, social development, infrastructure, spatial development and the environment, governance and institutional development and international relations.

Under these areas, the framework seeks to promote accelerated industrialisation, diversification and resilience, equality, community and shared prosperity, accelerated infrastructure development, efficient land use and environmental protection, enhanced decentralisation, ethical leadership and responsive governance, and a stronger role for Ghana in international affairs.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Thompson stressed the importance of having a clear long-term vision to guide infrastructure development, warning that the absence of strategic direction could undermine national progress.

Dr Thompson said the Ghana Infrastructure Plan would provide a framework for addressing critical infrastructure needs across several sectors.

He identified transport as one of the key areas, stressing that infrastructure planning should extend beyond roads to include railways, aviation, maritime and inland water transport.
