President John Dramani Mahama has described Ghana as an increasingly attractive destination for investment, saying the country is open to businesses seeking opportunities as Accra continues to expand.

He made the remarks at the sod-cutting ceremony for the US$1.3 billion Sentuo Airport Garden City project in Accra on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

“Ghana is open. Accra is rising. Let us build that future together,” President Mahama said.

The project, which is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, is being developed as a mixed-use residential, hospitality and commercial facility in the Airport area.

The ceremony also marked the unveiling of the project's sales office.

President Mahama said investments of this nature could help expand Ghana's tourism, hospitality and business sectors while creating opportunities for local companies and workers.

He said the development's proposed hotel and conference centre, which is expected to accommodate about 2,500 people, could strengthen Accra's capacity to host major international events.

“Xu, if you haven’t got a national honour yet, I’m considering you for one in the future for your investment in Ghana,” he told Sentuo Group Executive Chairman, Xu Ningquan.

The President also called on the developers to ensure that Ghanaian businesses and professionals benefit from the project.

He said qualified Ghanaian engineers, architects, artisans, technicians and suppliers should be given opportunities to participate in the development.

“They must be given a fair opportunity to contribute and to grow alongside this investment,” he said.

More than 3,000 jobs

Xu said the project would create more than 3,000 jobs, with Ghanaians expected to benefit from employment and training opportunities.

He said Sentuo would introduce apprenticeships and practical training for young Ghanaians, while international specialists working on the project would be required to share their expertise with local professionals.

The company said the approach was intended to ensure that skills acquired through the investment remain in Ghana.

The development is expected to include about 582 apartments, a hotel, a conference centre, healthcare facilities, shopping areas and recreational amenities.

The project is also expected to support activities linked to the government's 24-hour economy agenda, particularly in hospitality, transport, retail and conferencing.

President Mahama said government would also review roads around the airport enclave and the central business district to address increasing traffic associated with new developments in the area.

He said government would continue to work on creating a stable business environment and improving infrastructure to support private-sector investment.

The unveiling of the sales office will provide prospective buyers with information on the apartments and other facilities being developed.

Sentuo said it would provide details on pricing, property rights, payment obligations, delivery timelines and post-handover services.

The company said the project's impact would also be measured by the jobs created, opportunities for local businesses, skills transferred to Ghanaian workers and homes delivered to buyers.

President Mahama urged Sentuo to ensure that the benefits of the investment extend beyond the construction phase and contribute to Ghana's wider economic development.

The Airport Garden City project forms part of Sentuo Group's growing investment portfolio in Ghana, which also includes interests in ceramics, steel, oil refining and retail.
