Iñaki Williams’ retirement from international football leaves the Black Stars with another attacking position to fill, but Ghana still has several options capable of easing the burden.

With the Athletic Club forward no longer available for selection, the focus now turns to the players who could step up and fill the void he leaves in Carlos Queiroz’s squad.

From established Black Stars players to emerging forwards performing well abroad, there are several names Ghana could consider.

Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer

The 24-year-old, who represented Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, spent four seasons with Hamburger SV before joining Mainz in 2026.

He scored 14 goals in his final Bundesliga 2 campaign with Hamburg and has the pace and versatility to operate across the frontline.

Felix Afena-Gyan

The former Roma forward has already made eight appearances for Ghana and scored once. After spending last season on loan at Amedspor, he completed a permanent move to Turkish side Iğdır FK in July 2026.

Eddie Nketiah

The Crystal Palace striker has reportedly been approached about switching his international allegiance from England to Ghana. Nketiah has only one senior England appearance and remains eligible to make the switch under FIFA rules.

Joseph Paintsil

The former Genk forward is not a conventional striker, but his ability to play from the wing makes him an obvious option if Ghana wants to replace some of the qualities Williams provided from wide areas.

The LA Galaxy winger has continued to contribute goals and assists in MLS.

Prince Owusu

The former Paderborn and Toronto FC forward could be another option for the Black Stars following Iñaki Williams’ international retirement.

The CF Montréal striker has been in impressive scoring form in MLS, establishing himself as a natural No 9 and one of Ghana’s attacking options.

Owusu, who switched his international allegiance from Germany to Ghana, received his first Black Stars call-up in November 2025.

His goalscoring form, physical presence and ability to lead the line could make him a strong candidate to take on greater responsibility in Ghana’s attack.
