The demolition exercise at the Laboma enclave began in the early hours of Sunday, September 13, 2026, in the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality, with several other structures located within the protected area also affected.

Authorities say the affected developments fall within designated buffer zones of the Kpeshie Lagoon and are therefore not permitted to remain in the area.

The exercise follows a directive issued on August 7, 2026, ordering the removal of structures encroaching on waterways and their buffer zones as part of broader measures to tackle flooding and restore natural drainage channels across the Greater Accra Region.

The demolition of the Pink Flamingo Lounge forms part of the ongoing efforts to enforce the directive and prevent developments within areas considered critical to flood mitigation and drainage.

The exercise is expected to continue, with authorities working to clear other structures identified as occupying the protected zone around the Kpeshie Lagoon.
