The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has responded to President John Dramani Mahama’s concerns over the state of Colts football, insisting that the grassroots competition is still being played across the country.

Mahama earlier questioned what had happened to Ghana’s once-popular Colts League and challenged the GFA to revive the system.

He pointed out that the country had lost an important mechanism for identifying young talents during a courtesy meeting at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

“There are a few things in our soccer that we have left behind. One is catching young talent. We used to have a very good Colts League. I don’t know what happened to it,” he said.

Responding to the President during the courtesy meeting at the Jubilee House, the GFA Vice President, Mark Addo, said the competition had not been discontinued but is now operating under a different name.

“Your Excellency, the Colts are being played across the country. The name is called grassroots or youth football,” the GFA Vice President told President Mahama.
