The Ghana Premier League has produced its fair share of legendary teams, prolific goalscorers and extraordinary individual performances, but some records have survived for decades and now look increasingly difficult to break.

From Hearts of Oak's remarkable unbeaten run to Dan Owusu's historic goalscoring exploits and Samuel Attah Kumi's six-goal explosion, these are some of the Ghana Premier League records that could stand for generations.

Hearts of Oak's 44-match unbeaten run

Hearts of Oak's 44-match unbeaten run remains one of the most extraordinary stretches in Ghanaian league football.

The Phobians went 44 league matches without defeat across three seasons before their run finally ended against Real Sportive in 2004.

The remarkable sequence began during the 2002 season and stretched into 2003 and 2004.

78 points in a single season

If there is one record that looks particularly difficult to touch, it is Hearts of Oak's 78-point haul in 2002.

The Phobians won 25 of their 30 matches, drew three and lost only twice to finish with 78 points. They also scored 72 goals during the campaign.

The numbers become even more impressive when compared with the champions of the recent era.

The figures show just how unusual the 78-point season was. Even the strongest champion of the recent period, Asante Kotoko in 2021/22, managed 67 points. Recent champions have generally finished between the high 50s and low 60s.

25 wins in one season

The 78-point record is closely linked to another Hearts of Oak achievement: 25 victories in 30 matches.

Winning more than 80 percent of your league games over an entire campaign is already remarkable. Doing it in a 30-game season, while losing only twice, makes the achievement even more difficult to reproduce.

A club would need an almost flawless campaign to come close.

Fastest hat-trick — Opoku Nti

Asante Kotoko legend Opoku Nti holds one of the most remarkable goalscoring records in Ghanaian football.

He scored a hat-trick against Hearts of Oak in just six minutes, finding the net in the 54th, 55th and 60th minutes in 1983. The feat remains the fastest hat-trick recorded in Ghana's top-flight history.

Six goals in one match — Samuel Attah Kumi

This is the newest record on the list.

Bibiani Gold Stars striker Samuel Attah Kumi scored six goals in an 8-3 victory over Eleven Wonders on the final day of the 2025/26 season.

The six-goal haul made him the first player to score six times in a single Ghana Premier League match.

Three consecutive Goal King awards — Dan Owusu and Ishmael Addo

Before the modern era of the Golden Boot, Dan Owusu was terrorising Ghanaian defences.

The Bofoakwa Tano striker won the top-scorer award in three consecutive seasons, scoring 24 goals in 1974, 26 goals in 1975 and 28 goals in 1976.

Remarkably, Ishmael Addo later matched the achievement for Hearts of Oak, winning the award in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Fastest goal — Diawisie Taylor

Karela United striker Diawisie Taylor holds the record for the fastest goal in Ghana Premier League history.

Taylor scored after just 14 seconds against Ebusua Dwarfs in April 2018.

Six consecutive league titles — Hearts of Oak

Hearts of Oak's dominance between 1997 and 2002 produced perhaps the most difficult team record of them all.

The Phobians won the Ghanaian top-flight championship six consecutive times, becoming the only club to achieve that feat.
