The debate over Ghana’s sporting infrastructure continues, with Ghanaians divided over whether the government should construct new stadia or renovate existing facilities.

Speaking to GhanaWeb TV, some Ghanaians shared varying views on how the country’s sports infrastructure can be improved.

While some called for the construction of new and modern stadia, others argued that the government should focus on renovating and upgrading existing facilities.

Those backing the construction of new stadia believe some of the country’s existing sports facilities have become outdated and no longer meet modern standards.

“The stadium is outmoded. If we build a new, ultra-modern stadium, it will really help the country and improve the development of sports,” one said.

Another individual also backed the construction of new stadia, arguing that some existing facilities have deteriorated to the point where they could pose safety risks to supporters.

However, not everyone believes constructing new stadia should be the government’s priority.

One Ghanaian argued that the government could save resources by renovating and expanding existing facilities while adding modern amenities.

“If the existing stadia can be expanded and modern facilities added, there is nothing wrong with renovating them,” he remarked.

Another person who spoke to GhanaWeb TV also called on the government to prioritise the renovation of existing stadia before considering the construction of new ones.

“We have old stadia that can be renovated and used for now. Government can consider building new ones later when the country’s pressing needs have been addressed,” he added.
