The Ministry of Finance says all 6,300 Ghana Education Service (GES) staff recruited in 2024 without financial clearance and subsequently covered by a government payment arrangement have been paid.

The Ministry’s clarification follows an appeal by the Coalition of Unpaid Newly Posted Staff of the GES for the payment of outstanding salary arrears.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the Ministry said the Mahama government inherited the affected staff in 2025 after they had been recruited the previous year without financial clearance.

To address their salary payment concerns, the Ministry said it secured Cabinet approval and issued the required financial clearance for payment in four tranches.

“The Ministry of Finance can confirm that all 6,300 staff covered by this arrangement have been paid,” the statement said.

The Ministry also clarified that it had no pending requests for financial clearance from the GES.

“The Ministry further clarifies that there are no outstanding requests for financial clearance from the GES awaiting action by the Ministry of Finance,” it stated.

It advised staff members with unresolved salary or arrears concerns to contact the Ghana Education Service for assistance with the relevant payroll or administrative issues.
