Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has earned a place among the nominees for the 2026 Ballon d’Or Goalkeeper of the Year award following an impressive World Cup campaign.

The 40-year-old shot-stopper is one of 10 goalkeepers shortlisted for the prestigious Yashin Trophy, despite playing his club football in the Portuguese second tier at Chaves last season.

Vozinha became one of the surprise stars of the 2026 World Cup after helping Cape Verde reach the knockout stage.

His biggest performance came against eventual champions Spain, when he produced seven saves to help his country secure a goalless draw against one of the tournament favourites.

Cape Verde eventually exited the competition after losing to Argentina in extra time, but Vozinha’s performances earned him widespread praise and a huge following.

After the World Cup, the veteran goalkeeper completed a move to Chilean giants Colo-Colo.

He faces competition from some of Europe’s leading goalkeepers, including Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois, Arsenal’s David Raya, Barcelona’s Joan García and Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel.

Yassine Bounou, Emiliano Martínez, Édouard Mendy, Unai Simón and Paris Saint-Germain’s Matvey Safonov complete the shortlist.

Notably absent are current Yashin Trophy winner Gianluigi Donnarumma, Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, France’s Mike Maignan and England’s Jordan Pickford.

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for October 26, 2026, in London, where the winner of the Goalkeeper of the Year award will be revealed.
