Huawei has begun a digital skills training programme expected to benefit 100,000 Ghanaians under the government’s One Million Coders Programme (OMCP).

The initiative forms part of Huawei’s commitment to the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations (MoCDTI) to support the development of skilled workers for Ghana’s digital economy.

The four-year programme will provide training in five key technology areas: cloud computing, data communication, 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), and security and access technologies.

The first training session began on Monday, August 31, 2026, with a Training of Trainers (ToT) programme focused on data communication.

The programme is designed to equip selected trainers with the technical knowledge and instructional skills needed to train other participants under the OMCP.

The Training of Trainers model is expected to create a pool of certified instructors who can extend the programme’s reach to more beneficiaries across the country.

Participants who successfully complete the training will receive joint certification from Huawei and MoCDTI and will serve as certified OMCP trainers.

Huawei’s participation in the One Million Coders Programme builds on its digital skills development initiatives in Ghana, including Women in Tech, ICT Academy and Seeds for the Future.

The company said those programmes have provided students and young people with technology training, professional development opportunities and exposure to emerging technologies.

Huawei said it would continue working with the government and other stakeholders to strengthen digital skills development, support innovation and contribute to the growth of Ghana’s digital economy.
