French superstar Kylian Mbappé has said that he has what it takes to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or in the 2026 edition, considering his successes across the season.
He stated that the award places emphasis on a player’s performances throughout the season, and in that regard, he believes he stands out as the best.
Speaking in an interview with Ballon d’Or Media, Mbappé rejected claims that his lack of team trophies makes him ineligible, insisting that his individual performances are more than enough.

“I believe I can win it this year, so I haven’t taken a step back from it all. In the short term, actually, it is not far off. Of course, when it comes to an individual trophy, you look at what the player did individually. Now people say I haven’t won a trophy, but I’ve never seen a unanimous Ballon d’Or that ticked every box. Has anyone ever won with 100% of the votes? That means there’s always someone who felt he didn’t deserve it,” he said.
The Real Madrid forward stressed that his accomplishments during the season, including becoming the top scorer in World Cup history and excelling across major club competitions, give him an edge over his competitors.
“So with that in mind, I am not saying I will win it unanimously, but I think I have arguments. Being the top scorer in World Cup history, overtaking all the greatest legends in the sport—that’s unforgettable. Finishing as top scorer across all the most important competitions where the best players in the world compete… I think history should always be rewarded,” he added.
Mbappé’s quest for the accolade has been met with mixed reactions from fans, with some arguing that without a major trophy he does not deserve it, regardless of his individual honors.
