The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reportedly shared details of the amount of money the government spent on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa, following the xenophobic attacks in the country.

According to a post shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the sector minister has announced that the government spent nearly GH¢50 million to repatriate 1,900 Ghanaians from South Africa.

Out of the total figure, Ablakwa stated that nearly GH¢39 million was used for chartered flights, air tickets, ground transportation, feeding, accommodation and medical care for Ghanaians evacuated during the exercise.

He added that GH¢10.80 million was spent on reintegration support and transportation allowances, while GH¢84,274 was used to repatriate two mortal remains.

1. GH¢38.84 million was spent on chartered flights, tickets, ground transportation, feeding, accommodation and medical care.

3. GH¢84,274 was spent on the repatriation of two mortal remains.

4. The total cost of the evacuation exercise was GH¢49.72 million.
