At an age when most footballers are still trying to establish themselves in youth football, Majeed Labaran Alidu is already carrying the armband in Ghana’s top flight.

The 17-year-old Vision FC left-back has taken on a remarkable responsibility, becoming the youngest captain in the Ghana Premier League as the club begins the 2026/27 campaign.

Born on February 24, 2009, Alidu has been on an unusually fast track since breaking into Vision FC’s senior set-up.

He was part of the Vision FC squad during their historic debut in the Ghana Premier League in the 2024/25 season, featuring in four matches as the young defender began getting a taste of top-flight football.

The following season, his involvement increased significantly.

Alidu played 18 league games in the 2025/26 campaign, gaining valuable experience against some of the country’s established clubs. His 18 appearances also underlined how quickly he was becoming an important part of Vision’s defensive structure.

His progress has not gone unnoticed at the national level either.

Alidu has twice represented Ghana’s U20 side, making his debut against Switzerland in October 2024. He came off the bench in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat.

He also featured against Germany, another experience that exposed him to international-level football at a young age.

Now, the next step has arrived much sooner than expected.
In Vision FC’s opening game of the 2026/27 season, Alidu marshalled the left side as captain and helped his team keep a clean sheet in a commanding 3-0 victory over Young Apostles.

For a player who was only 16 when he began to make his mark in senior football, the sight of Alidu leading his teammates at 17 is more than a curious statistic.

It is a glimpse of a footballer being trusted with responsibility long before most of his peers.

The challenge now is to prove that the armband is not simply a symbol of his age-defying rise, but the beginning of a long leadership journey in Ghanaian football.
