Deputy Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, has called for tax reforms that support women’s economic activities rather than place an unfair burden on them.

She said women were already making significant contributions to Ghana’s economy through market trading, roadside businesses, workshops, farms and household enterprises, and therefore deserved an inclusive tax system that recognised their contribution.

In a Facebook post on September 6, 2026, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said the government’s efforts to reform the tax system must prioritise fairness, inclusion and empowerment.

“We cannot widen the tax net by placing an unfair burden on women who are already carrying families, creating jobs and sustaining communities. Tax reform must work with our women, not against them,” she indicated.

She cautioned that efforts to widen the tax net should not disproportionately affect women who were already carrying families, creating jobs and sustaining communities.

“As we reform our tax system, we must choose fairness over oppression, inclusion over exclusion, and empowerment over punishment,” she said.

Nana Oye Bampoe Addo said this was particularly important as the government pursued its Reset Agenda, which she said placed emphasis on women’s economic empowerment.

She cited the Women’s Development Bank and measures aimed at improving women’s access to finance, technology, education and formalisation as initiatives that could help women expand their businesses and contribute further to economic growth.

According to her, Ghana’s economic policies must create an environment where women’s ambitions were not constrained by lack of capital, bureaucracy or an unfair system.

She said market women, entrepreneurs and women-led businesses deserved policies that supported their growth.

“The Ghana We Want must be a Ghana that sees her, supports her and creates opportunities for her to thrive,” she noted.

She called for women to be fully included in Ghana’s economic transformation as the country continued to build, reform and reset the economy.
