New Patriotic Party flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has teased Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei over the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s preliminary investigation into an alleged GH¢70,000 payment linked to Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

The former Vice President made the comments when he arrived in Kumasi on September 5, 2026, to attend the funeral of the late Eric Twumasi Ankrah, popularly known as Chairman Akoko, founder of the Bawumia Fun Club.

As he exchanged pleasantries with party members who had gathered to welcome him at the airport, Dr Bawumia turned to the Deputy Minority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei and remarked, “Ah, the one under pressure.”

Dr Bawumia’s comment comes a day after the OSP announced that it had commenced preliminary investigations into an alleged GH¢70,000 payment connected to the work of Parliament’s Appointments Committee.

The investigation follows the emergence of a purported memorandum attributed Appiagyei, which raised concerns about an alleged payment.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minority Leader says she has not been formally contacted by the OSP.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on September 5, 2026, she said she could only confirm an invitation after receiving official communication from the OSP.

“I have not been contacted by the OSP, and I can only confirm it when I have a formal invitation from the OSP to appear before him,” she said.
