New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has criticised the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), formerly the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), over its decision to invite fellow NPP activist Efya Royal for questioning regarding the identity and whereabouts of the anonymous social media commentator known as "Ghana Jollof."

The NPP legislator described the move as "the height of absurdity," arguing that national security intelligence work demands precision, subtle tradecraft, and rigorous investigative qualities he says are undermined by inviting an activist simply because she operates in similar political or social circles as the person of interest.

According to Afriye, Ghana Jollof has repeatedly stated in her broadcasts that her face has never been published on any public platform, meaning she remains entirely unmasked.

He argued that this makes it impossible for her to be identified by sight alone, even by someone standing directly next to her.

"Dragging an innocent citizen into an intelligence dragnet simply to crowdsource basic investigative work sets a questionable precedent," Afriye said, adding that security agencies serious about tracking persons of interest should rely on modern cyber-intelligence, digital forensics, and standard investigative protocols rather than interrogating activists with no official connection to the subject.

Afriye has called on the security services to leave Efya Royal alone and instead conduct the groundwork required to identify "Ghana Jollof" independently.

He maintained that high-stakes national intelligence work demands seriousness, not what he termed "public fishing expeditions."
