President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Prof Dr (Med) Ernest Yorke, has called on Ghanaians to join the fight against corruption, warning that resources lost through the practice could have significantly improved the country’s healthcare system.
According to him, corruption deprives the country of funds that could otherwise be used to provide critical healthcare infrastructure and services.
Prof Yorke made the comments in a video posted on X by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni as part of a Pledge Against Corruption campaign.

“Do you know that the money lost through corruption in this country could have been used to provide more emergency beds, more affordable medicines and more health facilities?” he asked.
The GMA President said the impact of corruption goes beyond financial losses, stressing that it directly affects the ability of the country to provide quality healthcare to citizens.
He therefore urged individuals to take responsibility in confronting corruption whenever they encounter it.
“That is why you and I should fight corruption wherever we find it,” Prof Yorke stated.
He subsequently declared his personal commitment to the anti-corruption fight.
“My name is Professor Ernest Yorke, President of the Ghana Medical Association, and I take a stand against corruption,” he said.
His comments come amid growing calls for stronger public participation in efforts to tackle corruption and ensure that state resources are used for the benefit of citizens.
Prof Yorke’s pledge particularly highlights the potential impact of corruption on Ghana’s health sector, where resources are required to expand health facilities, improve emergency care and make essential medicines more accessible to the public.
