An earlier prophecy by Ghanaian cleric Prophet Eric Boahen Uche regarding the retirement of football greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has resurfaced.

During the 31st Night 2025 Watchnight Service, the prophet stated that Messi and Ronaldo would retire after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

He added that this would be due to the emergence of new football stars who would take over from them.

“The era of Ronaldo and Messi will end in 2026. Because new young stars will shine, leading to their retirement after the World Cup. They will put their boots down and say, ‘We are not playing again.’ 2026 will be the end of Ronaldo and Messi,” the prophet declared.

Following Messi’s recent announcement of his retirement from international football, the prophecy has resurfaced on social media, sparking mixed reactions among fans.

Prophet Uche, reacting to the news, referenced his earlier prophecy, which he believes has now come to pass, even though the Inter Miami forward has not retired from club football entirely.

The clergyman emphasized that this was a testament to the work of the Lord and urged people not to take prophecy for granted.

“I learned three days ago Messi said he has retired from football. My God! I said it, and I mentioned Messi. And I said Ronaldo. I said after the World Cup you’ll retire from football, and it has manifested right now.

"I just want you to know that there is God, and God has a mouthpiece called a prophet. He speaks through them. Don’t joke with the word of the prophet, because whatever we say, we hear before we say,” he explained during a recent church service.

It is worth noting that Messi has retired from international football, while his club career is expected to continue. Cristiano Ronaldo, however, has yet to officially announce his retirement.
