The 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) has reached its decisive stage, with Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon), St Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) and Accra Academy earning places in the much-anticipated grand finale.

The three schools secured their spots after navigating a series of tightly contested semi-final rounds, overcoming strong opposition to become the final contenders for this year’s championship.

AUGUSCO became the first school to punch its ticket to the final after defeating a highly competitive line-up that included five-time champions Prempeh College and 2001 winners Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary.

The two-time champions displayed composure throughout the contest to secure their place in the title decider, giving them another chance to increase their trophy haul after previous triumphs in 2007 and 2019.

PRESEC-Legon then secured the second spot with a strong showing in the next semi-final.

The eight-time champions faced St John’s School and Tamale Senior High School in a three-way battle for qualification.

The ‘Ɔdadeɛ’ boys ultimately came out on top, sending both opponents out of the competition and moving one step closer to a historic ninth NSMQ crown.

Accra Academy completed the final line-up after winning the third and final semi-final.

The qualification marks a major milestone for the ‘Blɛoo’ boys, who will make their first-ever appearance in the NSMQ grand finale.

They overcame former champions Achimota School and Bright Senior High School, the first private institution to reach the NSMQ semi-finals.

The three finalists will meet on September 10, 2026, for the ultimate showdown, with PRESEC-Legon seeking a record-extending ninth title, AUGUSCO chasing a third championship and Accra Academy bidding to make history by winning the trophy on its maiden appearance in the grand finale.
