Assistant Black Stars coach John Paintsil has revealed that he has learned many valuable lessons, particularly in discipline and tactical approaches, from head coach Carlos Queiroz during their time working together.

The Portuguese manager has been in charge of the team since the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana qualified for the Round of 32 before being eliminated by Colombia.

The former Black Stars defender noted that he has been gaining deeper insight into Queiroz’s philosophy and ensuring that it is properly implemented among the squad to produce results.

Carlos Queiroz reappointed as Black Stars coach

Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Paintsil praised Queiroz’s coaching prowess, especially in terms of discipline, and expressed hope of learning more from him in the coming years.

“You know I'm a very disciplined person. He's also disciplined. And he's a hard coach. I think it’s good to learn from those who are ahead of you. He has his way of operating; I have mine. But when I stand to coach, I have to fall into his philosophy and work under him. I have learned a lot, and I’ve taken more from his side, adding to mine,” he explained.

The assistant coach also commended the way Queiroz has structured his team, which encourages diverse ideas:

“He’s got a very good structure around himself. We always talk about the game.”

Paintsil is expected to continue working with Queiroz, as the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has renewed the coach’s contract ahead of the 2027 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers during the upcoming international window.
