The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that Carlos Queiroz will remain in charge of the Black Stars after agreeing a fresh coaching mandate with the Portuguese tactician.

Queiroz’s initial four-month contract ended last month after Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, leaving his position uncertain amid reports of negotiations over the terms of a possible extension.

The GFA, however, announced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, that an agreement had now been reached, with the new spell set to begin during the upcoming international window.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme,” the association said.

The 73-year-old was appointed in April 2026, following the departure of Otto Addo and was handed the task of guiding Ghana at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Under Queiroz, Ghana progressed to the knockout stages of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.

The Black Stars opened with a 1-0 win over Panama, drew 0-0 with England and lost 2-1 to Croatia before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

His immediate challenge will be the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké on September 24, 2026, before hosting The Gambia in Accra three days later.

The GFA said Queiroz’s international experience, technical expertise and familiarity with the Black Stars make him well suited to lead the team into its next phase.
