IGP decorates Police officer promoted for saving lives at Aboso

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has decorated Chief Inspector Hance Atubra for his bravery and exceptional efforts in saving lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.

Chief Inspector Atubra, formerly an Inspector at the Tarkwa Divisional Headquarters, was invited to the National Police Headquarters in Accra, where the IGP decorated him with his new rank.

He was promoted in recognition of his courageous intervention during the fire outbreak on August 26, 2026, which saw him put his life at risk to protect lives and property.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement shared on X on August 31, 2026, said the IGP commended Chief Inspector Atubra for his courage, quick response and dedication to duty.

According to the statement, his actions exemplify the values of professionalism and service expected of officers of the Ghana Police Service.

"His swift response, courage and efforts to save lives and property were highly commended by the IGP," the statement said.

The IGP’s recognition comes as a commendation for the officer’s decisive response during the emergency and his commitment to protecting the public.
