A woman believed to be in her early 30s and living with a mental health condition has reportedly been abandoned at St Gregory Hospital in Gomoa Buduburam, in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

According to an adomonline.com report on Monday, August 31, 2026, hospital authorities say she was initially brought in for treatment after claims that she had been knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle.

However, subsequent investigations suggested she may have been deliberately left at the facility by those who accompanied her.

Medical Superintendent of St Gregory Hospital, Dr Larye Yemo, told Adom News that management has made repeated appeals to the Gomoa East District Social Welfare Department and the District Assembly for assistance, but no intervention has yet been provided.

Dr Yemo explained that the hospital is unwilling to discharge the woman onto the streets, citing a similar case recorded at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital last year. He noted that the situation has become increasingly challenging, as the woman has allegedly attacked other patients.

He is therefore calling on the Gomoa East District Assembly, the Social Welfare Department, and other relevant agencies to urgently step in and provide appropriate accommodation and care.

“The hospital is ready to collaborate with the authorities to ensure she receives the necessary support and is not left to fend for herself on the streets,” Dr Yemo emphasised.
