President John Dramani Mahama has been captured interacting with some deaf employees of Northshore Apparel in Savelugu in the Northern Region.

The President, who on Friday, August 28, 2026, launched the Northshore Apparel factory, was seen among the workers engaging with them.

An interpreter stood as an intermediary between the President and the employees. However, Mahama appeared familiar with sign language and did not communicate only verbally. He was also seen making gestures during his interaction with the employees.

The factory, Ghana’s first regenerative, zero-waste apparel manufacturing hub, has already created direct employment for more than 2,300 people, a development described as a testament to the government’s 24-Hour Economy Vision.

The wholly Ghanaian-owned and globally competitive factory was funded by the Ghana EXIM Bank, German Development Bank (KfW), and the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB). It is expected to export its products to other countries.

Speaking at the commissioning, President Mahama said the establishment of the factory marked the planting of the first seed to restore northern Ghana to its former days of industrial glory.

He said, “Northshore has made nonsense of all the arguments about factors of production. I remember in secondary school I did Economics, and we have what they call the factors of production.”

The President explained that these factors include sources of raw materials, markets, proximity to ports, power, and water, among others.

He said most industrialists, when scouting for favourable locations to establish factories in Ghana, often overlooked the northern part of the country because of the perceived absence of these requirements for industrialisation.

According to President Mahama, Northshore Apparel has demonstrated that the north can overcome these challenges and serve as a viable destination for industrial development.

The President reiterated that Northern Ghana has a conducive environment for establishing industries, with access to litigation-free land and other conditions necessary to support industrialisation and expand Ghana’s garment market.
